Raising aspirations. Developing character. Delivering success.
Bedford Academy is an all-ability secondary school offering places for boys and girls between 11 and 18 years. The school, which moved into its purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities in November 2012, is a dynamic institution breaking new ground.
Bedford Academy has high expectations and aspirations for all of its students which means they offer an education that enables every student to excel and to develop the skills and confidence to do whatever they choose in later life. Students are encouraged to recognise their achievements and explore how they can build on them so that they make excellent progress.
Personalised learning is at the heart of Bedford Academy’s drive to raise standards. Students with special educational needs benefit from a range of intervention programmes and receive additional support from teaching and non-teaching staff. Gifted and Talented learners are nurtured and challenged through extension and enrichment.
The Academy’s exciting curriculum, utilising the latest technology, is designed to meet the needs of the 21st century learner. A broad academic and vocational curriculum is offered, with students taught in sets of similar ability students for the majority of their curriculum.
Student progress is carefully tracked and students are challenged to achieve. The statutory 25 hours per week of study is extended with students receiving 30 hours of taught time, enabling students to build on their strengths and receive support to address any weaknesses.
At Key Stage 4 students select subjects based on their skills and aspirations as individuals. They can choose from a wide range of courses tailored to enrich and enhance the curriculum. The carefully thought out careers and guidance programme, which was recently awarded Investor in Careers status, covers all years and ensures students make informed choices.
GCSE results at Bedford Academy have continually improved for the last 6 consecutive years. Ofsted rated the Academy a Good school with Outstanding leadership in October 2015.
We value the dreams and aspirations of everyone in our community
